1894 – 2019 – Kowa, Celebrating 125 Years of the Spirit of Prosperity
Since its foundation in 1894, Kowa was established first as a cotton wholesaler.
125 years later and Kowa is still owned by the same family. Now in the third generation, it has grown into one of the largest privately owned, multinational Japanese companies with over 3500 employees, actively engaged in various manufacturing and trading activities in the fields of pharmaceutical, life science, information technology, textiles, machinery and consumer products.

More than 70 years of experience with lenses
The electronics and optics division of Kowa began the production of lenses in the 1940s. Shortly after that spotting scopes and binoculars were added to the product portfolio.
High quality and broad portfolio
From the beginning, Kowa positioned itself in the high quality segment of the market. Most Kowa optical products are designed and manufactured in Japan.
Over the years, the product lines of lenses in the CCTV/security, machine vision and traffic control (ITS) categories have become one of the most extensive in the market. In addition to the standard lens portfolio, Kowa also provides custom lens solutions to ensure that each customer finds the perfect fit with a Kowa product for any type of project.
Close to the customer
Since the beginning of the 1980s, Kowa has had a sales office in Europe. For the optical division, Kowa Optimed Deutschland GmbH serves the European market from Düsseldorf. A small, dedicated team of lens professionals provides sales and technical support for the European market. The European team works in close communication with the technical development and production in Japan.
Most lenses are on stock in Düsseldorf and can be shipped anywhere in Europe within a few days.
SPORTING OPTICS
The Electronics and Optics division of KOWA began the production of spotting scopes in 1952. Originally, they were developed as scopes for examining targets in shooting matches and saw official use in 1964 Olympic Games held in Tokyo. Once discovered by birdwatchers, they gained unexpected popularity which gradually spread throughout the world of nature observations.

The PROMINAR line which includes models utilizing pure Fluorite crystal to achieve optical characteristics unattainable with glass, is the gold standard of serious users.
